While he was talented on the field, his heart was still on the sidelines. After giving it his best, Oscar decided the only way he was going to be happy is if he embraced his passion full force. He traded in his helmet for a dance uniform and joined the cheer team at Apollo High school in Glendale, AZ.
It’s a good thing he did, too, as he is now the choreographer for many professional dance teams. A dream all the football fame in the world couldn’t have evolved. This man is ALL about dance, from beginning to end. He aids in auditioning, choreographing, and executing every dance for the Pistons.
He has also worked with sports dance teams such as the Nuggets, Warriors, Sonics, Blazers, Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, and Lions. In addition, played a large part in choreographing the 2009 NBA All-Star Game halftime show in Phoenix! There is nothing dance related this man can’t do! Unwilling to limit his dance career to sports-related events, Hernandez has expanded his dance experience into music video and live concert choreography as well. His talents have allowed him to rub elbows with some of the most famous artists, including rappers T-Pain and Busta Rhymes, as well as the 90’s hip-hop trio Salt N’ Pepa.
Who would have thought that this towering mass of muscle would be teaching others how to be light on their feet?
In this audition for America’s Got Talent, Oscar shyly approaches the judges. From the look on their faces, they weren’t expecting much. Simon asks if the gentle giant is nervous. He shrugs and says “Yeah, a little bit”, but he doesn’t let it stop him!
He takes the stage and assumes his opening pose. Simon is already scratching his chin. Then Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” starts playing and Oscar brings his talent to the table full force! Booty-shaking like the best of them, he has the crowd on their feet and screaming as Oscar proves that when it comes to passion, size doesn’t matter!
