Adele’s new track, “Easy on Me,” is audacious in at least two ways. To begin, and most importantly: As she released the 40-second sample earlier this week, you were probably curious what it would sound like when it transitioned from a solo piano arrangement to something larger in the chorus following the teaser stanza.
We now know: From start to finish, it’s just Adele and a piano… and, if you squint into the ether, the tiniest sense of rhythm, but mainly, solo keyboard accompanying not-so-sotto voce. That’s right, Rhythmic Top 40 formats! (And they probably will, since it’s Adele.)
