Lucy Love of Holly Grove, Arkansas, has advanced through her first audition on American Idol.
Love sang “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” and “A Song for You” at the show’s 21st season opener.
“I come from a long history of folks who never got the chance to build anything of themselves,” Love, who has two children, explained. “I didn’t have a father. And my mother was in and out of our lives.”
Love went on to say that music is her safe haven and the one thing in which she has faith.
She’s heading to Hollywood after receiving three yeses from the panel of judges, who included Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.
