Momoa announced the news on Instagram on Thursday, after fans on a Warner Bros. bus tour supposedly learned that Affleck was filming with him.
Affleck already announced his departure from the role of Batman in 2019, and has been upfront about the emotional and professional challenges that came with it. So it came as a surprise two years ago when it was reported Affleck will be reprising his role as Batman in The Flash, a film starring Ezra Miller and featuring Michael Keaton.
It was expected it would be Affleck’s final time in the role, but he is set to return sooner, with Lost Kingdom set to release on March 17, 2023.
In Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, Affleck portrayed Batman. He was set to direct and appear in The Batman before stepping out.
