Since losing Chadwick Boseman, there have been a lot of talk of who would take the mantle of Black Panther.
It looks more and more like Shuri will be the next Black Panther in Black Panther 2 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From the latest MCU tie in book we see what Shuri has been up to in the MCU. Things that appear to correspond to the Black Panther 2.
Chadwick Boseman will never be substituted, but a new and different Black Panther looks to be arriving in the form of his sister.
But first, exactly who is Shuri?
Shuri is a comparatively recent character in the mythology of Marvel Comics. In 2005 she made her debut in Black Panther comic issue #2, the fourth volume of the title.
She was co-created by writer Reginald Hudlin and classic comic artist John Romita Jr. as part of the Black Panther Series Reboot. Hudlin originated from beyond the comics and was well recognized for his role as a film and television producer and novelist, such as House Party and The Great White Hype.
This new volume of Black Panther made several improvements to the origin of the character and the essence of his plot, several of which were soon omitted after Hudlin ‘s departure from Marvel Comics. However, Shuri has remained a part of Black Panther ‘s stories ever since this fiercely contested comic series run.
So now can see why this character might have attracted the great actress Letitia Wright to playing it.
While talking to ComicBook.com, Letitia Wright was asked when the world will get a standalone Shuri movie. It was prompted by the enormous amount of fun and flavor her character brings to the upcoming Marvel Studios flick, but the humble actress is more set on bringing everyone into the mix once again rather than branching out on her own.
“That’s the kindest thing an interviewer has ever asked me,” Wright said. “I hope, whenever the time is right, if it’s meant to happen, I would happily do it. But you can’t have a Shuri movie without T’Challa and you can’t have a Shuri movie without Ramonda and Nakia and the rest of the Dora Milaje and Okoye. So, I guess, the question is: when can we have Black Panther 2?”
Now, of course, at the time of that when she said that, which was back in 2018, Chadwick Bosman was still with us, hence her mention of having T’challa. But even back then the prospect of a sequel was only on the directors and producer’s minds but Wright.
Regarding the case of a Black Panther sequel and more, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has the potential to pursue the same path as its Marvel Comics source material, in which Shuri has recently taken up the mantle of the Black Panther.
And Wright would no doubt be excited take on such an iconic role. Especially given the recent loss of her dear friend Chadwick.
But one of the biggest reasons why we believe Shuri will be the new Black Panther, was from what was just revealed by the great Youtube channel: The Cosmic Wonder.
