Britain’s Queen Mother Dead at 96

Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom has died, capping up a remarkable 70-year reign. She was 96 years old.

The Queen died in Balmoral, her favorite Scottish Highlands residence acquired by her great-great-grandfather Prince Albert in 1852 for Queen Victoria. Her children and grandchildren encircled her.

Her eldest son, Prince Charles, succeeds her.

The death of the Queen occurs little under 18 months after the death of her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on April 9, 2021.
