Chris Evans is speaking out against those who criticize “Lightyear” for including a homosexual kiss between two female characters.
According to the actor, film and television audiences who oppose diversity and more inclusive on-screen representation are “idiots” who will “die off like dinosaurs.” Evans stressed the need of ignoring such poisonous views and remarks.
Variety previously claimed that Pixar restored the homosexual kiss in “Lightyear” after personnel protested the decision to delete it. The kiss is short and occurs amid a montage scene depicting Hawthorne’s life (voiced by Uzo Aduba).
The character has a wife, and the two ladies kiss. After Disney declined to delete the sequence, some countries, notably Saudi Arabia, banned “Lightyear.”
“The real truth is those people are idiots,” Evans told Reuters about critics of on-screen representation.
“Every time there’s been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that’s what makes us good,” the actor added. “There’s always going to be people who are afraid and unaware and trying to hold on to what was before. But those people die off like dinosaurs. I think the goal is to pay them no mind, march forward and embrace the growth that makes us human.”
This of course as you can imagine has caused uproar from fans of buzz lightyear. Being offended by those comments. The Popular Youtube channel Geeks & Gamers did a video on this the controversy and fallout from Evan’s comments.
