Elon Musk Reveals Twitter Verification Badge Pay-to-Play Plan

Elon Musk, Twitter’s new owner, has revealed in a series of tweets his proposal to allow individuals to pay to receive a blue checkmark indicating that they’ve been “verified.”

Users would subscribe to Twitter Blue for $8 per month under this new plan, which is now being redesigned to include the verification status and other features.

Musk cited a handful of additional capabilities allegedly planned to be included in the Twitter Blue bundle in the same tweets.

Musk tweeted about the plans for Twitter Blue and verification statuses on Tuesday, after sparking social media conversations recently with the idea that Twitter might start charging users to get and maintain their verified badges.

These badges are intended to distinguish which accounts are “official” and which aren’t in order to prevent duplicate accounts from being created, and they display as either a blue or white checkmark next to a name depending on whether you’re in light or dark mode.
