The first look at Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid has arrived. During this weekend’s D23 Expo, the studio presented the first footage from the highly anticipated picture.
The film will feature Halle Bailey as Ariel, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric in a remake of the iconic 1989 film musical of the same name.
However, as suspected, there have also been a lot of people not happen with this version of Ariel. And unfortunately, many comments have been racist in tone and more.
First of all, the official video trailer that was released by Disney already has almost 4 times more down votes than positive votes. That’s all you need to know to see how divisive this is already and we haven’t even seen the film yet!

But here are some of the comments online regarding the new look of Ariel:
**** reboots, why does Disney insist on giving second-hand characters to minorities?

borders between worlds, southern songs, pacting with bad powerful women to become human.
just with that preset, Halle could have been her very own mermaid with her own name and a new story.
I wonder if the people saying “whats wrong with a black girl playing a white character” would say the same thing if disney casted a white girl to play Tatiana or marvel chose a white person to play black panther

Because of woke they've been changing older movies, TV shows etc. Skin color, which changing how we know the character. I do like diversity, but I don't know why Disney can't make new movies and TV shows with diverse people.
