White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was apparently taken aback by a CNN question on whether US President Joe Biden has the “stamina” to compete for re-election in 2024.
On his prime time Monday broadcast, CNN’s Don Lemon asked the White House press secretary about the commander-in-“physical” chief’s and “mental” vigour, a topic that has gained traction since a recent New York Times report quoted top-ranking Democrats who have begun to call the 79-year-old president’s age a “major issue.”
“Do you believe the president has the strength, physically and emotionally, to continue even into 2024?” the CNN presenter inquired.
Ms Jean-Pierre laughed at the reporter’s question before responding in what appeared to be honest disbelief, exclaiming: “Don! You’re asking me this question! Oh my gosh.”
She went on to elaborate on her rejection of the comments mentioned in the New York Times piece, calling them “salacious” and “hearsay.”
