What was supposed to be a leisurely ride for Nicole Graham, her daughter Paris and her horse turned into the scare of their lives.
As detailed by LifeBuzz, the pair were riding along the coast of Geelong, Australia when the soggy land gave way. Both horses were stuck in the quagmire. Nicole had to jump to her daughter’s rescue. She was able to get them to firm land, but by the time she returned to her horse, Astro, he was sinking. While her daughter called for help, Nicole held Astro’s head above water as the tide was coming in.
Nicole stayed with her Astro while her daughter went to get help.
Any movement from Astro would cause him sink further, so she tried to keep him calm.
Nicole waited for 3 hours, holding his head high to avoid drowning. She was scared knowing she might lose him.
Rescuers and a vet, Stacey Sullivan, arrived to the scene and sedated the 18-year old horse.
It was a race against the clock since the tide was coming in.
Rescuers attempted to dig the horse out, but it caused him to sink more.
A farmer lent his tractor to help pull the horse out.
After three hours of being stuck, Astro was finally saved.
Fortunately, Astro did not sustain any physical injuries and is doing fine.
According to the vet, the horse may not have survived if Nicole wasn’t there with him, for him.
