Super Mario’s voice will change when he transitions from video games to his next animated feature film.
Mario has been voiced by Charles Martinet since the Italian plumber first began speaking in Nintendo games.
While The Super Mario Bros. Movie looks a lot like the video games, viewers noted a distinct voice for Mario in the new teaser, as Chris Pratt voices the movie version of the popular character.
Many fans have opposed Pratt’s casting, with one prevalent argument being that Nintendo and Illumination should have cast Martinet instead.
Tara Strong, who has performed voices for Harley Quinn, Twilight Sparkle, and many other well-known cartoon characters, also took to Twitter to comment on Mario’s new voice.
Strong kept her initial tweet brief, posting a photograph of herself beside Martinet and a short statement that read, “It should be Charles.”
