Rick Grimes and Michonne are returning to the world of The Walking Dead. Four years after Andrew Lincoln acknowledged his departure from The Walking Dead during the show’s Comic-Con panel in 2018, AMC announced Friday that Lincoln will reprise Rick Grimes in a six-episode limited series on AMC and AMC+ in 2023, opposite Danai Gurira as Michonne.
The announcement came at the zombie drama’s last season panel inside Comic-Hall Con’s H in San Diego, where the network unveiled the full-length trailer for The Walking Dead: The Last Episodes, the eight-part finale that will conclude the series on AMC this October.
The Walking Dead is coming to an end, but Rick and Michonne’s storylines are not.
The news comes almost four years after Scott Gimple, AMC’s Walking Dead Universe’s chief content officer, stated that Lincoln will appear in a series of AMC Studios Original Films that would continue Rick Grimes’ journey. The new series will take the place of the previously scheduled Rick Grimes film trilogy.
