Trish Stratus turned heel on Becky Lynch on this week’s Monday Night Raw, setting up what might be a major battle for a future WWE pay-per-view.
Lynch was about to defend her WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships alongside Lita against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, when she was assaulted backstage by an unknown assailant.
Lynch had no idea who was responsible, so she quickly resorted to the former seven-time Women’s Champion to stand in for Lita. Stratus consented, only to be pinned by Morgan and lose the belts.
Lynch afterwards sought to calm Stratus, showing that she wasn’t upset with the outcome. But then Stratus nailed her with a forearm and a Chick Kick, confirming her heel turn.
Stratus first returned to WWE in late February to assist Lynch and Lita in their rivalry with Damage CTRL, but rumours of her turning heel to begin a program with Lynch that would lead to a bout at this year’s SummerSlam surfaced shortly after. The three babyfaces defeated Bayley, Iyo Sky, and Dakota Kai at WrestleMania 39 earlier this month.
