Wicked: Part One will be released in theaters on Thanksgiving 2024, according to Universal Pictures.
The November 27 date is over a month sooner than the previously stated Christmas (December 25) 2024 date. The long-awaited cinematic adaptation of the smash blockbuster musical that flipped The Wizard of Oz on its head and made Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth household stars.
The plot revolves around Elphaba, a green-skinned witch who everyone knows is destined to become the Wicked Witch of the West, and her sister Glinda the Good Witch.
The narrative, based on Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Lives and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, called into question the black-and-white character of Glinda and Elphaba as pure good and evil as previously accepted in the Oz canon.
The musical, which had its Broadway premiere in 2003, has become a cherished component of musical theater, making more than $1 billion in total Broadway revenue in 2016. At least two new songs are planned to be included in the film.
