According to a source familiar with the situation, HBO is nearing a deal for a Harry Potter TV series based on the best-selling young adult books for both cable and streaming.
According to the individual, who requested not to be identified since the arrangement hasn’t been publicized, each season of the series would be based on one of JK Rowling’s seven books, implying years of new TV material from the popular stories.
The business hopes that the series will be a cornerstone of a new streaming plan revealed next week by HBO’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery Corp.
That company’s CEO, David Zaslav, and HBO CEO Casey Bloys have sought to persuade Rowling to develop a new series for HBO and online, but the contract has yet to be finalized.
