Gwen Berry, a US track star who just rejected the Stars and Stripes in the Olympic trials, has claimed that her detractors are “obsessed” with her, as the reaction against her continues Monday.
Berry, an Olympic athlete and prominent racial justice campaigner, turned away from the American flag during the national anthem on Saturday.
“At this point, y’all are obsessed with me,” Berry said on Twitter when Dan Crenshaw demanded that she be pulled from the Olympic squad for turning away from the flag.
It’s time for Real Change. Athletes must continue to bring awareness to the systemic oppression Blacks have endured for centuries. We should never be silenced and punished for speaking out. Thank you @nytopinion for helping me create this powerful piece. ✊🏾✊🏾 https://t.co/I6Y3nKe6XN

“I’m here to represent those … who died due to systemic racism. That’s why I’m going. The anthem doesn’t speak for me, it never has.” – @MzBerryThrows

Gwen, you got so much love coming from me 🤍 https://t.co/haoDJdavO8
Berry, 31, has not been shy about sharing her thoughts on racial injustice in the past, but she is now facing harsh criticism after turning her back on the flag during the national anthem at the Olympic track and field trials in Oregon after finishing third in the hammer toss and earning a spot on Team USA.
“I never said I hated this country!” she wrote in another tweet, “People try to put words in my mouth but they can’t. That’s why I speak out. I LOVE MY PEOPLE.”
Now everyone is chiming in to give there opinion on this incident…
Officer Tatum went on a big rant about this. Check out this video below and let us know what you think about all this.
