“It’s been a moment.”
That’s the statement of Will Smith’s at the beginning of a new YouTube video he posted to his channel, which marks the first time the actor has spoken out about the much-discussed Oscars slap incident since publishing his original apologetic message on social media in March.
The almost six-minute video, posted above, features the Oscar winner for King Richard answering what he calls “a lot of reasonable questions” after slapping Chris Rock during the Academy Awards broadcast.
First, Smith addressed why he didn’t directly acknowledge Rock in his Best Actor award speech.
“Um, I was fogged out by that point,” he said. “It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out. So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
