I think we can all agree that when two of our favorite things come together, it is truly an amazing thing! Whether it’s ice cream and cookies or video games and comics. In this case, it happens to be the latter. Rumors of two new AAA Marvel games in development have surfaced on the infamous message board known as 4chan. While 4chan may not be the most reliable source, it’s still possible for these rumors to be true based solely off of the success of Marvel Spider-Man PS4.
We know for certain that Marvel is planning more games on next-gen consoles based off of tweets made by Eric Monacellis, the Director of Production for Marvel Games.
Now, although this tweet was made back in 2020, In this tweet he revealed that his team had big plans for the PS5 that have yet to all be revealed.
The Man Without Fear
According to the leaks, Marvel’s untitled Daredevil project will be a single-player narrative driven game that is set to release on next-gen consoles in late 2021 or 2022. The target platforms are PC, Xbox Series X, and PS5, with no Nintendo Switch release in mind.The Daredevil game is supposedly open-world and set in a modern day Chicago. The game will also be a detective style game, with a heavy focus on combat. The combat will be similar to the Arkham games as well as Avalanche Studios’s Mad Max, with a customizable skill tree and cool downs for abilities.
The anonymous leaker also claims that there will be an echolocation mode that is seen in many games like Arkham, Middle Earth, and the Witcher 3. It was also mentioned that side missions would be in the game, and he told us the map size is roughly around 65 square miles. If this is accurate, then the PS5 is definitely going to help run this game smoothly, considering how this would make the game three times the size of Marvel’s Spider-Man, which happens to be 18.95 square miles.
As far as story details go, it seems that this game will be sticking to the idea of following a hero who has already been fighting crime for a while. Matt Murdock will be seasoned and the villain will be an older Bullseye. Information on other character cameos is unclear, however, if these rumors are true then we can expect plenty of suprises, especially since Marvel’s Spider-Man had cameos as well.
Wolverine
Now, the info on both games is scarce, but even more so for Wolverine. The rumors claim that similar to Sony’s recent God of War, it will be an open exploration/linear story game, not open world. It is very early in development, and it is not expected release for at least 2-3 years.
Thoughts…
Well, the legitimacy of these leaks are definitely questionable. However, we do know something is coming down the pipeline for Marvel Games. With the variety of genres and styles in the MCU films, we can conclude that it’s not just Marvel Spider-Man 2. (which I would still love btw). Whatever is coming is going to expand the video game universe that they are building. So whenever it’s revealed I know it’s going to be amazing!
