Ridley Scott Blames ‘The Last Duel’ Bombing on Millennials & Their “F**king Cell Phones!”

Mr. Ridley Scott knows exactly who to blame for his blockbuster The Last Duel failing this past autumn, and it isn’t Disney, who he claims did a fantastic job advertising the historical drama.

The Academy Award nominated filmmaker spoke on Marc Maron’s WTF show on Monday, where he addressed his legendary career. Maron was thrilled by Scott’s two massive films this year, The Last Duel and the forthcoming House of Gucci.

The Last Duel, starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, and Ben Affleck, flopped when it was released exclusively in cinemas in late October, grossing only $27 million worldwide on a $100 million budget.

“I think what it boils down to — what we’ve got today [are] the audiences who were brought up on these ******* cellphones. The millennian [sic] do not ever want to be taught anything unless you’re told it on a cellphone,” Scott said.

“This is a broad stroke, but I think we’re dealing with it right now with Facebook,” Scott added. “This is a misdirection that has happened where it’s given the wrong kind of confidence to this latest generation, I think.”
