A 3-year-old chihuahua named Eric, who was formerly housed in a California animal shelter, has a lot to be thankful for this Christmas season.
According to People, the dog is cancer-free after 17 rounds of treatment and has found a forever home.
Eric arrived at the San Diego Humane Society as a stray in early July, according to the shelter. He’d been bitten by ticks and had bloodied feet. Lab tests and X-rays indicated a malignant Transmissible Venereal Tumor as well as Ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne illness.
The medical team at SDHS worked on treating Eric’s cancer and the tickborne disease he was carrying. While he was undergoing treatment, a foster family had been caring for him, the news outlet reported.
