When Marvel created its Ultimate universe, Spider-Man was to be none other than Peter Parker. But after a storyline that killed off the original, someone had to take over as his successor. Perhaps, one of the best things to come out of Marvel’s Ultimate line of comics is Miles Morales as Spider-Man.

Along with Miles himself, his black and red costume is also an amazing addition to Spidey’s best costumes ever. It’s also a great merging of the original with Spidey’s popular black costume.

Designed by Sara Pichelli (2011 Eagle Award for Best Newcomer Artist) who also drew the stunning piece above, the costume distinguishes Miles from Peter, giving fans a distinct costume to identify him with as a different Spider-Man from his predecessor.

4. Spider-Man 2099

To be totally honest, the first time I saw Spider-Man 2099, I disliked him immediately because his costume reminded me of the Tarantula’s. Somewhat. I don’t know. It’s why I never bought it in the first place.

But after seeing the work that Francesco Mattina did on the cover of the recent Spider-Man 2099 series, I was hooked! For good! This has coooooool written all over it. The combination of the red and blue together with the huge spider emblem make it one costume that’s very distinct from the original.

It gave his alter ego, Miguel O’Hara, a costume that’s all his own while allowing him to look like he’s a vastly different Spider-Man from those who came before him especially since he’s from the future. Styles should be different in the future, don’t you think?

It’s a particularly beautiful costume that deserves another look. The magnificent work done below by Alexander Lozano is another reason why I have grown to love this costume.
